Chapter 13

Logan placed a call to Randall. This negro was out of order. How the heck was he trying to holler at Harper?

Randall answered. “Logan, I’m pulling through your gate right now. Are you in the office?”

Logan pressed “end call” without another word. He waited for Randall to come around the circular driveway to where he was standing.

Randall got out of his SUV. He was dressed in all black—shirt, tie, pants, and shoes—silk. The brother was wearing silk in all this heat. “I’m here to pick up Harper. Is there something we need to discuss?” Looking at his watch, he said, “I’m early so I have a few minutes.”

“Where are you and Harper going?”

“Dinner and a show.”

Logan smiled. This guy was slow. Couldn’t he tell by the way he was blocking the door that he wasn’t welcome? “Harper isn’t going to be able to make it.”

Randall cocked an eyebrow. “She isn’t? Oh wow. She didn’t call me.”

“Well, I’m telling you.” Logan stated. “I have a policy against my employees and contractors fraternizing. Standard stuff.”

His expression was curious. “I don’t remember seeing that in my contract.”

“I’ll send you an addendum. Will that help?”

Randall swallowed before saying, “I’d like to explain to Harper.”

Logan shook his head. “That’s not going to happen.”

Randall’s eyes widened. Finally, understanding came to the Man-in-Black.

“I’d like to give you some advice. You don’t mind taking advice from me, do you? I mean, I’m where you want to be one day, right?”

Randall’s Adams apple went up and down again.

“Always keep your business in front of you. Harper is an amazing woman. Smart. Beautiful. Nice body. I understand why you’re attracted to her.”

Randall attempted to interrupt with a raised hand.

“Let me finish,” Logan said firmly. “You don’t know Ms. Ingram well enough to risk future business with me. Your company is three years old. It’s growing nicely. You came highly recommended. A contract with the Bennett Hotel Group is not something you want to lose. I think we both know it’s going to up your cred in your industry.”

Logan could see Randall had the full understanding of what he was saying, but he drilled the final point home. “We could be in a long business relationship, or you can go on a date with Harper.”

“It really wasn’t a date. She’s new to the city. I had tickets. I just thought I’d show her around a bit.”

“Now I’m even more insulted. You didn’t offer to show me around.” Logan placed a hand on Randall’s shoulder and capped it there, turning his body back toward his vehicle.

“I’ll text.” Randall backed up. “I’ll tell her I had a personal situation come up.”

“Those exact words would be perfect.”

Logan stood there and watched him get in his SUV. Randall put down the window and said, “So Logan, would it have been okay if I offered to take a male executive to dinner and a strip club or nah?” He smirked, started the SUV, and edged away from the entrance.

Logan glanced at the front door, thought about Harper inside waiting, and then looked at Randall’s receding taillights.
